School Organisation and Pastoral Care

Pupils are broadly grouped according to literacy ability  and are taught in forms, sets or groups according to subject.  Each class is given a number, which indicates the Year Group, followed by the Form Tutor’s initials.

The Form Tutor is responsible for keeping the twice-daily register of pupil’s attendance and for their welfare and pastoral care.  The Form Tutor, who sees your child most frequently and who is responsible for monitoring his or her overall welfare and performance, is the person you should contact in the first instance if you have any concerns, by written note, telephone call or through a note in the Day Book.

In Years 5 and 6 pupils are taught by their Form Tutor for a larger percentage of the time.  They also work with specialist teachers.

As pupils move through the school they experience a progressively higher proportion of specialist staff teaching until, by Year 8, specialist teachers deliver their whole curriculum.

Each subject area in the school curriculum is organised by a Curriculum Leader, whose role and responsibilities are explained in greater detail in the School Prospectus.  If a subject teacher or Form Tutor is unable to satisfy concerns about your child’s performance in a particular subject, you should contact the Curriculum Co-ordinator.
