Awarded for 2005 - 2007 Sportsmark is Sport England's highly successful accreditation scheme for secondary schools. It is a developmental and auditing tool that rewards and recognises a school for its out of hours sports provision and a broad and balanced PE curriculum. Legendary England and West Ham footballer and chair of Sport England, Trevor Brooking, praised the award winning schools. He said: "These schools are to be applauded for their consistent efforts in embracing sport as an integral part of school life. It is important that young people have a positive first experience of sport as it teaches them to work in a team, appreciate fair play and boosts their self-confidence. "Sportsmark is our commendation of schools which quite rightly recognise the value of physical activity, not just in terms of health and fitness education but also how it can help pupils achieve in other subjects. Sport can also help tackle problems such as social exclusion and youth offending." Sportsmark awards are valid for three years, and schools are encouraged to celebrate their award with pupils, staff, parents and partner organisations.
